SFE Men: Pastels for Fall 2016

Pastel colors are totally in for the fall and winter seasons of the year, looking positively fabulous in their softer, more muted hues that really bring out the definition of winter. Dusk blue is perennially a favourite shade for men. Reminiscent of the blue sky above, dusk blue is ultimately dependable and faithful. In a world that has become increasingly chaotic, this nostalgic color enables us to retreat into a safe place of quite blue calm.

The grey paired with the blue contrasts and enhances it, it bounces off the white and blue without taking away from them as it slips into the background to allow the other colors to take center stage. This glacier grey shade denim is timeless and a very versatile piece throughout the year. And for those who think the darker and jewel tones are the colors for fall wardrobe, think again.

With notions on what is and what isn't masculine, the blurred lines have allowed the fashion industry to experiment a bit more with mens trends. And pastel hues were one of the results of such experiments. Not everyone would think of pastel blue or pink or frosty yellow to be the primary colors of men's winter wardrobe but it is indeed one of the biggest trends for AW15-16.

An all black outfit is one of my personal favourites. You can hardly go wrong with this one. Simple and chic, not much to think about this chic fall trend.

While we all know black is an universal flattering color when it comes to fashion, what you probably don't know is that it is super easy to style and experiment with. You honestly don't need to abide by any rule book. With an all black ensemble, anything goes. You can experiment with mixing texture, fabric, prints, trying new trends or pair unexpected pieces. If you are hesitant about any new black pieces you have bought recently which seems a bit difficult to style, create an all black ensemble and you will easily pull it off!

I styled this outfit on a very cold morning and decided to layer on a few cozy pieces. The slashed denim keeps the outfit from looking too stuffy and allows me to show some skin while still being super cozy and comfortable. The soft pullover paired with a structured jacket creates an interesting contrast of texture keeps the outfit looking sharp and chic. What is your favorite way of wearing an all black outfit? Do let me know in the comments below!

I am seeing the age old human tendency of wanting something until they get it and then wanting something else in a whole new light. The need to want seems never ending. I have been wanting to redesign my blog and now that is kind of under process, I want more (let's keep that under wraps till the idea solidifies into something real). I wanted to buy a designer bag, now that I have my two Michael Kors, I want more. And I know once I get that 'more', I would again want something else. Why is the need to want is so obsessive? Or am I the only one on this boat? I am guessing not. Be it bags or career or relationship, is someone ever satisfied? What is the definition of being satisfied really?

One could dwell on those question for ages and never come up with definitive answers, for being satisfied is truly a momentary stage. Would we strive to work harder if we were satisfied with where we are in our career? Even if you become very successful, if you are satisfied, you would not feel the need to work harder and be driven towards a new goal. So, I guess wanting is not that bad after all. I know a lot of you will beg to differ. Some people do claim they are satisfied with what they have and I respect that. Being able to make peace with your current stage, emotionally, physically, financially or even romantically is a rare ability and I applaud you if you have achieved it. I am still working on it but I doubt it's going to come anytime soon. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with where I am today, what all I have. Blessed even. But to say I am fully content and I don't want more would be a bit of a lie. I am trying this thing you know, being honest with yourself in all entirety and accepting this is the very first stage I guess. Till next time...

SFE Men: Key Trends for Fall 2016

DSC_2861 DSC_2868 DSC_2870 DSC_2862 DSC_2927 DSC_2931 DSC_2898 DSC_2852 DSC_2847
{Pullover - H&M, Denims - Aeropostale, Jacket - Koovs, Shoes - Zara}

While the weather has been playing hide & seek, we have been busy making the best of what we are getting. On days when the sun decides to shine a little brighter, it can't hurt to add a bit of spring to our steps and attire but on the days when the sky is gloomy and blue, we get back into our cozy comforts.

While the wooly layers are the trick to stay warm, the one thing that should be heating up your wardrobe is crew neck sweaters. It stands true for men as well as women this season. Recently, I styled a mustard crew neck sweater (See HERE) and this time, I styled it on Rohman Shawl to show how the guys can wear it just as easily. The versatility of the garment is under-rated as it is considered a basic piece in anyone's wardrobe but the so-many-ways that you can style this sweater makes it the star item in your closet. The trick? layer, layer, layer! Wear it under your favourite blazer, leather jacket, cardigan or layer a shirt underneath with just the collars popping out and bow-tie for that neat Chuck Bass look that we all love so much!

Now that I think of it, this fall the men's trends seem highly inspired from Chuck. In fact, it's all Chuck Bass! The plaid print, the layering, the double-breasted coats, the tailored suits, the suspenders! To say that the Gossip Girl series revolutionised the modern fashion scene would be an understatement.

Getting back to the trend talk, sweaters this season are tending towards thicker, more textured knits that provide more warmth and add dimension to your look. The texture on this H&M sweater adds an air of casual luxury and the traditional shape makes it an essential piece for every wardrobe.

With all the sweater appreciation, let's not forget the double-breasted jacket which is one of the biggest trends for Fall 2016.  Thank God for fashion forward guys like Jake Gyllanhal, Ryan Gosling and the inimitable David Beckham who have brought the look back and transformed it for the 21st century. Now, it is just a slight bit tricky to style this favourite trend of ours. As much as you might love the look of a double-breasted jacket/coat, it is best suited on leaner men. If your body leans more towards the likes of Salman Khan or R Madhavan, maybe steer clear of this style as it will visually widen you and create an unflattering optical illusion.

As big of a statement as the double breasted jacket makes, it can still be worn casually. The dressed down version would ideally include pairing it with chinos or dark denims. The general rule you can follow is, the more unstructured the jacket, the more casual it is. The coat is usually all buttoned up unless it is a casual jacket like the one you see above. Another way of styling this same jacket would be to pair it with a plaid print shirt, a bow and buttoned up all the way. This look would be more fashion week appropriate though, or some semi-formal event. Nonetheless, be sure to double the fun when it comes to jackets and coats this season!

Stay warm, guys!

ASUS ZenPad 8.0 Review

I have been wanting to buy a tablet for a while now. It is easier to carry around than a laptop and you can do so much more work on it than on a phone. When I am on the go, I need to be checking and replying to mails, read and forward pdf files and sometimes even create an invoice and mail and all of this becomes a tad bit difficult on a phone. No matter how big screen it has, at the end of the day it's a phone and while it can be amazing for Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp, it may not be as fulfilling as a laptop. So, with a tablet, you have the best of both worlds!

ASUS people were ever so generous to send me this beautiful piece of technology meets design and oh so much functionality! Read on to know what makes this tablet fab and why you need this in your life!

ASUS Zenpad 8.0 Review

With an Android 5.0 (lollipop) operating system and 8" display, the ZenPad 8.0 is only 8.5mm thick and weighs only 350g. It comes in two different storage options, 8GB(1GB RAM) and 16GB(2GB RAM). The one I received is 16GB and it's black. I believe it come in two more colors, white and metallic grey. You can also insert a microSIM and use it to make calls and access 3G as well as 4G! So, that makes it a voice calling tablet with a dual SIM feature. I guess that is all about the specifications. Oh yes, it does have 8MP rear camera and 2MP front camera.

IMG_3672

The touch of ZenPad 8.0 is very responsive, it does not have any glitch what-so-ever. No air gap between the touchscreen and the LCD means that the ZenPad 8.0 offers very wide viewing angles. The backlight is easily bright enough for outdoor use, as long as it is used in the shade.

In short, it's pixels are so small and tightly packed that everything looks smooth with no signs of pixelation anywhere. Colours are bright and vivid, making photos and video look great.

IMG_3695

The design is very professional with clean lines and sleek look. The black cover is made to look like leather with a bit of texture which makes for a good grip. This case can be removed to insert microSD card and SIM. It also comes with a Audio Cover which you can put in place of the original cover, I will be talking more about it towards the end.

IMG_3676

The tablet comes loaded with apps, a bit too many in my opinion. You will hardly need to sit and spend time downloading all your favourite social media apps, or picture editing tools. It has a lot of very cool features like Kindle app which you can sync with your kindle and read your books on the tablet itself. You can work on Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PDF files. There is a very interesting app called Mirror which launches the front camera but you can only use it as a mirror and can't take pictures. I am guessing it doesn't use up as much battery life and you can easily place the tablet in front of you and use it as a mirror if you are in a beauty emergency! I personally love browsing through Instagram on this tablet. Every image appears bigger and brighter!

IMG_3677

The Camera features are pretty much the same as in ASUS ZenFone Selfie, you can read my review of phone's camera HERE and I am attaching more pictures to give you guys an idea about the wide options it offers in terms of photography. There are various modes available to experiment with as you can see in the image above. I have yet to come across another phone/tablet which offers so many options in the camera feature.

IMG_3679 IMG_3680 IMG_3683 copy

The 2MP front camera has a beautification mode which lets you adjust the brightness, skin softness, make your eyes look bigger, cheeks thinner and even apply blush! There are so many features you can try out with the front camera as well so if you are a person who loves clicking selfies of yourself or with your friends and families, you are surely going to love this tablet.
IMG_3688 IMG_3691

The battery life is decent. It lasts upto 8-10 hours of normal usage. The bigger screen works well for reading, watching movies or browsing. I am not much of a gamer but I think it would be awesome to play games on a bigger screen compared to phones!

IMG_3693

As I had mentioned earlier, the ZenPad 8.0 comes with an Audio Cover which has a 5.1 surround sound. The sound on the tablet itself is not that great so the audio cover comes as a welcome surprise. You can detach the original back cover that the tablet comes with and snap the audio cover on. It is a lot more fun to watch videos or listen to music with this accessory. The cover comes with a dongle that you can use to charge the cover or you can just put the cover on the tablet and charge them both simultaneously. The cover once on, does make the tablet a bit heavier but then again, you can always change back to the original cover if you want your tablet lightweight.

IMG_3697

All in all, it is a very good product for the price of Rs.18,999/-. It is not easy to find a decent tablet is this budget so if you are tight on the pocket, go for this model. You won't be disappointed!

According to wikipedia, business casual is an ambiguously-defined dress code that has been adopted by many professional and white-collar workplaces in western countries. But in all honestly, there is no generally agreed definition of "business casuals". While the general public only has to battle these blurred lines between formals and casuals on Fridays, people like us in fashion industry have to face this situation more often than not.

The fashion industry is a product of modern age, and while the blurred lines are sort of forgiving here, you still have to make an impact with your outfit. I need to attend business meetings frequently and need to be looking sharp and professional while still being able to portray a strong creative personality through my outfit because the first impression is made way before you start talking. The first look can help formulate a personality image in the other person's mind. So, it is very important that you dress to impress and present yourself the best way possible.

I styled these looks keeping in mind the comfort as well as sharp dressing that you need for a business meeting. The tailored jumpsuit in olive green spells professionalism and sophistication. It's sharp with clean lines and a neutral base while the geometric cardigan adds colors and personality to the look. I kept the look clean with minimal accessories while making statement with a burgundy watch and tan bag. While I added colors and print to make my outfit a wee bit more fun, simple clean knee rips on the grey denims work for Rohman's outfit.

How do you wear business casuals? Enlighten us in the comments below, maybe?
